Art, history and contemporaneity: Isoplam for the Luigi Bailo Museum

In constantly renewing itself over the decades, the Luigi Bailo Civic Museum has been able to maintain strong references to its medieval and Renaissance past, right from the architectural choices: on the floor, Terrazzoverlay by Isoplam reinterprets a classic of Italian creativity, the Venetian terrace, in a high performance and low thickness version.

Intertwining between an ancient medieval convent and precious art collections from the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the Luigi Bailo Civic Museum is the oldest of the museums in the city of Treviso. Arising from the vocation for collecting of Abbot Luigi Bailo, it has recently been refurbished and opened to the public after the renovation of the northern cloister and the related rooms, which have doubled the spaces up to 3,030 square meters. Entrusted to Studiomas Architetti (Padua), in collaboration with the Austrian architect Heinz Tesar, the impressive architectural and structural intervention has been able to return to the city another jewel of its complex civic heritage.

Completely redesigned in its elegant rigor, in dialogue with the urban fabric that welcomes it, the facade of the museum is characterized by large slabs of white artificial stone, interrupted by large glass openings which, from the front atrium, allow a glimpse of the two internal cloisters . Just beyond, the distribution of the spaces is immediately clear: the first gallery (behind the facade) houses both the entrance and the ticket office and, at the same time, connects the two cloisters, thus delimiting the exhibition and museum space to the East and the reserved areas. to the services to the West.

The dialogue between past and present, between historical memory and contemporaneity, is solid both in the relationship between architecture and set-up - since the medieval frame interfaces with about 340 works from the second half of the nineteenth century to the first half of the twentieth century - and in the compositional and decorative choices. In fact, Terrazzoverlay by Isoplam guides the visitor along an exhibition path that allows him to never retrace his steps, a continuous surface that reinterprets a classic of Venetian creativity: the Venetian terrace.

Transformed into an extremely resistant and versatile flooring, in just 4-8 mm thick, Terrazzoverlay offers both the elegance of a timeless workmanship and excellent performance, primarily from the point of view of sustainability. The surface, in fact, is made up exclusively of water-based products and natural grit.

For the Luigi Bailo Civic Museum, the mixture of Italian marble and cement powder was chosen in the white color and was customized with the addition of precious inserts in mother-of-pearl and other natural stones, restoring a one-of-a-kind floor.

Proposed in the version for interiors - smooth and glossy - Terrazzoverlay has proved to be the ideal solution not only for the unprecedented aesthetic effects that at the same time recall and evoke past atmospheres, but also for its qualities of resistance to traffic, necessary for environments subjected to high attendance such as public buildings and sites of historical and cultural interest (such as museums, exhibition spaces, meeting areas, etc.). Furthermore, the absence of leaks or joints makes the surface hygienic and easy to clean, minimizing the need for maintenance over time.
