In Palazzo Lungarini, in a recently restored tourist loft, the low-thickness Micro Flat surface by Isoplam creates a pleasant perspective effect that embraces the vintage and modern furniture and softens the strength of the old wooden planks kept for the ceiling.
In the historic center of Palermo, immersed in the narrow and suggestive via Lungarini, stands Palazzo Lungarini. Commissioned by Pietro Bonammo and Scammacca, this elegant expression of seventeenth-century architecture changed hands several times - in 1723 and at the end of the nineteenth century - to then be divided among several owners. Today, in harmony with the Roman, Arab, Norman and Bourbon traces that characterize the city centre, its white facade dotted with Baroque-style balconies is the entrance door to an apartment complex also dedicated to tourism.
In this setting of contrasts that find their continuity despite the passage of time, the restoration of an 80 m2 loft is the expression of how furniture seasoned with the right design is now a necessary strength to satisfy comfort and eye of the tourist who will stay there. The main objectives of the owner who directly dealt with the restoration work were three: to enhance the airiness and luminosity of the spaces, to maintain the ancient wooden planks of the ceiling, and to adopt a spartan style characterized by the presence of vintage and modern furniture . Not an easy challenge for an open space comprising kitchen, living room, bedroom and two bathrooms on the ground floor and a small mezzanine with bedroom; an environment that must meet the customer's needs in terms of visual pleasure and functionality.
To bridge the union between vintage and modern art, the owner chose Micro Flat by Isoplam, the low-thickness continuous coating with a smooth appearance used for the entire walkable surface of the ground floor. The delicate hand-crafted material texture fits into the spaces creating the illusion of a pleasant game of mirrors in which the brown nuance of the floor seems to reflect the planks of the ceiling. An overview enriched by the elegant profile of the wall staircase leading to the mezzanine.
In addition to offering light points capable of giving airiness to the entire environment, the white walls act as a canvas in which the elegance and intense colors of the furniture fit into the perspective outlined by the floor and ceiling. The soft lines and sharp edges typical of modern art are thus highlighted by a light that brings their saturation back to life, as if the Sixties and their bright tones had never ended, without however renouncing the visual cleanliness of the contemporary. A framework in which comfort, utility and design merge with each other.
The perfect floor for interior spaces dedicated to tourism
Designed as a new version of the decorative surface Microverlay, Micro Flat is obtained from a cycle of two special cement mixes in different grain sizes. The result is a surface that preserves the robustness of traditional concrete in just 3 mm of thickness, the most immediate choice for new applications or restoration of existing surfaces. In fact, thanks to its excellent adhesion properties using suitable primers, Micro Flat can be applied to various types of substrates and materials without removing them (plasterboard, ceramic, marble, mosaic, tiles, sand-cement screed, self-levelling products, concrete , wood, plastic, glass).
In addition to enhancing the typical visual continuity of an open space, the absence of joints makes Micro Flat a hygienic surface, easy to clean, compatible with underfloor or wall heating and which requires little maintenance over time; the best for B&Bs, hotels and all environments where there is a continuous rotation of tourists. Furthermore, it is a safe product with low environmental impact: the components are free from formaldehyde and are formulated on a water basis, without the release of substances dangerous to people's health and the environment.
